Washing the engine is always a safe procedure as long as everything is factory-fitted and nothing is modified or defective.
Of course, with years of experience, it's impossible to predict everything (if the vehicle is in disrepair, if previous repairs have been carried out incorrectly, etc.). The car manufacturer must protect important parts from the ingress of water, dust and dirt. If it is not possible to protect them, the manufacturer shall mark the areas where water cannot be used.
